24HR Nieuw-West: Refugee Night at the Sloten Mill

The mill turns through the night.

The Sloten Mill will be turning on tonight from midnight to 3:00 AM. This is special, because normally a mill does not turn after sunset. This night milling is part of the Night of the Refugee. That night, the mill serves as a resting place for participants in the sponsored walk, and other visitors are also welcome to tour the working mill.

Walk along with the miller for an hour

Do you want to do more than just look? In exchange for a donation of €50 or more to Stichting Vluchteling, you can walk along with the miller for an hour and learn more about the miller's trade. Stichting Vluchteling celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

A working mill from 1847

The Sloten Mill is a working polder mill on the outskirts of Amsterdam and one of the few mills in the Netherlands that you can visit every day. The mill dates back to 1847 and still helps regulate the water level in the Sloterpolder. In addition, you will learn more about how the Netherlands has managed water for centuries and get a glimpse into the work of the miller.
