Resistance Museum (Verzetsmuseum)

New historical insights, a more contemporary museum approach and an intensive internal renovation, have resulted in a spectacular, interactive, narrative and inclusive exhibition design and set-up. The many poignant, personal stories of residents of the Netherlands are leading in this and bring the visitor closer to the skin of history and the dilemmas they faced during the occupation in the Second World War.

Resistance Museum

The monumental Plancius building is the beautiful home of the Resistance Museum Amsterdam. Here, visitors can experience the atmosphere of the World War II years during a walk through the Netherlands before, during and just after the war.

The decor of recreated streets and wall-filling colour photos is combined with original objects and image and sound material. See how the atmosphere becomes increasingly grim during the occupation. Oppression and resistance, on the other hand, are becoming more and more noticeable.

Helping people in hiding, the illegal press and forging papers became a day job for a small minority of the Dutch population. Their personal stories illustrate the dilemmas and choices they and others faced. In addition to the permanent display, the Resistance Museum also has approximately five changing exhibitions each year.

Resistance Museum Junior

At the end of 2013, a particular part of the museum for children was opened. Here children follow the actual experiences of four children from the war.
