Tulp Festival
Colourful connection
Saskia Albrecht is the garden designer and initiator of the Tulip Festival. Her ambition was to bring the tulip back into Amsterdam's streets, under the motto of 'a tulip for and from every Amsterdammer'. Her project encourages residents to participate; throughout the autumn, students, companies, shopkeepers, hotels and museums have been busy planting bulbs.
Where to find the tulips
As in previous years, cheerful tulips can be admired around Koningsplein, Leidseplein, Museumplein, and the Museum Quarter. There will also be a tulip route from Damrak towards Dam, Rokin, De Munt and Vijzelstraat along the Weteringcircuit. Likewise, there will be a kilometre-long row of tulips on Stadhouderskade, an initiative of 'The Green Mile' which aims to make this major city artery greener. This year, the project has also extended from Centrum towards Oost along Prins Hendrikkade, Plantage Middenlaan (opposite Artis), Czaar Peterstraat and Elandsgracht.
In Oud-West, make a tulip stop at the neighbourhood squares of Mercatorplein along Kwakersplein, Bellamyplein, Witte de Withplein, Van Limburg Stirumplein all the way to Frederik Hendrikplantsoen. In other corners of the city, tulips will welcome visitors at Osdorpplein, Gelderlandplein, Amsterdamse Poort and Buikslotermeerplein. Other familiar places in Noord include the IJpromenade, Van der Pekstraat, Mosveld and Metro Station Noord. New locations in Noord include Zonneplein, Mercuriusplein, Molenwijk, Banne and around NDSM-Wharf.
From mid-March 2023, all flowering locations will be listed on the map.
