On July 8, 2026, the Walk of Pride Amsterdam officially opens: 53 bronze tiles from Dam Square to the Homomonument, each dedicated to an icon from LGBTQIA+ history. You can be there and be the first to walk the route during the opening ceremony of WorldPride 2026.

A monument for LGBTQIA+ icons in Amsterdam

The Walk of Pride Amsterdam is a monumental route through the center of Amsterdam. Through 53 bronze tiles, inlaid in the street from Dam Square to Westermarkt, the route honors national and international LGBTQIA+ individuals who have made a special contribution to emancipation and equality. A committee of 18 Dutch organizations carefully selected the names, with an eye for diversity and inclusivity. The route will continue to grow in the future.

A route of historical significance

The Walk of Pride deliberately passes by places of historical significance. On Dam Square, men were convicted until the 18th century for sexual relations with other men. At the end of the route stands the Homomonument on the Westermarkt: a national monument for gay men and lesbians who were persecuted or died during the Second World War. Diversity has been celebrated and commemorated here since 1987.

WorldPride Amsterdam

For the first time ever, WorldPride comes to Amsterdam. From 25 July to 8 August 2026, the city will shine in every colour of the rainbow to celebrate freedom, diversity, and love in all its forms, as the Netherlands marks 25 years since becoming the first country to legalise gay marriage.
