Visual art exhibition in the foyer

Visual artist Abu Kanu is opening an exhibition in the foyer of Bijlmer Parktheater during Museumnacht. Kanu has lived and worked in the Bijlmer since 1996 and draws inspiration from people, landscapes and the cultural richness of Sierra Leone. The exhibition features paintings in oil and acrylic, pen drawings and wood sculptures. His work can be seen until February 2027.

Spoken word and performance on stage

Multidisciplinary artist Sunni Lamin Barrow presents two spoken word performances. In The Pungency of a Thing, a boy searches for words for a feeling that is difficult to name. Later, Barrow collaborates with musician and poet Jörgen Gario (aka UNOM) in God Owes This Black Boy and His Father an Apology, a performance about grief, identity and language.

Film and conversation about the African diaspora

Living Room Session presents the film screening Africa Is the Future, a 4-part work by filmmaker Nicolas Premier. The film connects images from archives, his own recordings and internet sources into a personal diasporic story. After the screening, you will join a conversation with Premier, moderated by curator Shaquille Shaniqua Joy.

Movement and hip hop in the night

During Shake Your Nyash, you will move for 2 hours with YŮSU and Mami Wata in an ecstatic movement journey. Afterwards, rapper NOELL3, who grew up in the Bijlmer, closes the evening with rap songs and choreography. Are you interested? Use the link for tickets.
