A musical film by Jacques Demy
Following the success of Les parapluies de Cherbourg, director Jacques Demy has once again created a fully sung musical. In Les demoiselles de Rochefort, twin sisters Delphine and Solange play a central role. One is a ballet teacher, the other a piano teacher. Both dream of true love and a career in the music and dance world. The film is set in the sunny French port town of Rochefort.
Deneuve, Dorléac and Gene Kelly
The twin sisters are played by real sisters: Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac. Dorléac died in a car accident less than a year after the premiere. Alongside the two sisters, musical legend Gene Kelly, known from Singin' in the Rain , plays a leading role. The music is by Michel Legrand, who also wrote the score for Les parapluies de Cherbourg .
Now showing in a 4K restoration
The film is screening in a new 4K restoration, allowing the vibrant colors and carefully designed scenery of Rochefort to come into their own better than ever. Les demoiselles de Rochefort is showing at Lab111 in Amsterdam. Are you interested? Use the link for tickets.
