A father who forgets his baby
In Father , you follow Michal, an ordinary father who forgets his baby in the car in an unguarded moment. That one moment changes everything. The film shows how such a fatal mistake disrupts an entire family: guilt, lawsuits, and a marriage under strain. Director Tereza Nvotová bases the film on the so-called 'forgotten baby syndrome,' a phenomenon in which parents accidentally leave their child behind in a vehicle.
Director Nvotová's perspective
Nvotová, known for Nightsiren , initially did not want to make this film. Yet the subject stayed with her. She recognized the vulnerability every parent knows and asked herself: what if this happens to me? She chose an observational style, inspired by Gus Van Sant's Elephant . In doing so, she avoids judgment and allows the viewer to get close to the characters.
