Protest and activism
In Mother Song II, Gartz explores the meaning of protest and activism in a time of global conflict and change. The installation highlights the complex emotions associated with this, such as hope, doubt, grief, resilience, and connectedness. You are invited to explore these feelings and reflect on your own role in the world.
History and current events
The installation connects historical images of protest from the personal archive of Gartz's parents with recent recordings of demonstrations, including the Feminist March in Warsaw. This confrontation between past and present brings the energy of protest back to life and shows the continuity of the struggle for change.
Sound and experience
A specially composed soundtrack enhances the experience, with a mix of drums, battle songs, birdsong, and moments of silence. The alternation of movement and stillness, vulnerability and strength, love and resistance, invites you to reflect on the complex dynamics of our world.
