This exhibition is about childhood memories and how they still return. The works are based on the time Janna spent with her grandmother. Her grandmother passed away when she was 12, meaning all her memories of her stem from that childhood. As a result, those memories are strongly connected to that period.

Work centered around memories of a grandmother

Ten years later, these moments find a place in this exhibition. The sea and the beach recur regularly in the work, as references to those memories and a specific place.

Now that I am older, I try not to lose those memories, but to bring them back again. From my current perspective, I translate these memories into a new image.

Room for chance

Janna works with a playful style and leaves room for chance and spontaneity. Her grandmother lived in Zandvoort, where her love for the sea and the beach originated. This recurs frequently in her work. She is studying Spatial Design at the HKU and is in her third year. Additionally, she spent six months studying Fine Art in Dundee, Scotland, from September 2025 to January 2026. Within her work, she explores how memories keep recurring and how she can translate them into imagery.
