William Barrett Band
Tumbling saxophone lines, lightning-fast drums, acrobatic guitar sounds, and a bassist soaring high into the strings: this is what the music of bassist and bandleader William Barrett sounds like. For his debut album, Barrett chose the most direct route, trying out all eight compositions in an Amsterdam pub and then recording them at the De Roode Bioscoop theater. This is how Live in Amsterdam came into being, a record that returns to the roots of jazz with playful, spontaneous music. The bassist makes his debut at the Bimhuis with playful, spontaneous jazz inspired by Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders.
