WAAN is the musical project of saxophonist Bart Wirtz and keyboardist Emiel van Rijthoven. Together with bassist Matteo Mazzú and drummer Mark Schilders, they create a unique sound. This sound combines the energy of the dance floor with the spontaneity of jazz improvisation. You experience a special mix of styles that takes you on a musical journey.

The New Album: We Want DEVIATION

Their first album, Echo Echo , was released in 2023 and received two Edison Jazz nominations. The album was played worldwide, and this success demonstrates the quality and originality of their music. The new album, We Want WAAN, originated on Texel. The tranquility of the island inspired the band to adopt a rawer and more rhythmically experimental approach. This resulted in string arrangements and a collaboration with American vocalist Ivy Sole. The new album is being released once again via Sonar Kollektiv.
