Dangerous seductress

We know the story of Odysseus, who had himself tied to the ship's mast to listen to the seductive but deadly song of the sirens. One of those creatures was Partenope, who would subsequently found the city of Naples. Throughout her life, Partenope remained a dangerous seductress, until the faithful Rosmira thwarted her. In 1738, Antonio Vivaldi set this story to music in his opera Rosmira fedele , but he primarily used arias by fellow composers. The most famous are Hasse, Pergolesi, and Handel, although he adapted all the music to his own style.

For the first time in the Netherlands

The NTR Saturday Matinee is now bringing this final opera by Vivaldi to the Netherlands for the first time. Early music conductor and Vivaldi expert Ottavio Dantone leads his own Accademia Bizantina and an exceptional voice cast, including mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert as Rosmira and alto Delphine Galou as Partenope.
