Drummer Mike Reed joins forces with equally adventurous performers from Chicago: poet Marvin Tate, sound adventurer Ben LaMar Gay, and the experimental trio Bitchin Bajas. An article in the New York Times was the inspiration for The Separatist Party. Mike Reed read the story about the reclusive George Bell, an obsessive collector. All feelings about isolated lives took shape in poetry and music that touches upon minimal music, krautrock, and the liberating jazz of Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders. This idiosyncratic collective from Chicago brings spoken word together with avant-jazz and avant-rock at the Bimhuis.
