Ausschweifen

Alongside Haas, Proton will perform a new work by Naomi Pinnock, an award-winning British-Swiss composer who is making a name for herself. Ausschweifen is an evening-filling piece for eight musicians that lives up to its title in every respect. In it, Georg Friedrich Haas follows a musical vision that transcends the usual dimensions of a concertante world premiere, pushes the performers to their limits, and offers the audience an existential sensory experience.

About Haas

During the Holland Festival 2024, Haas made an impression with his exuberant 11.000 Saiten for no fewer than 50 pianos and orchestra. Just like 11.000 Saiten, Ausschweifen is about microtonality and spectralism – in other words, about sound and a splendour of colours. 'Ausschweifen' means something like 'to fan out', but also 'to go too far', 'to exaggerate'. According to Haas himself, the work lives up to its name: it is a monumental piece for eight players that wildly and boldly overflows its own banks.

Proton Ensemble

Proton Ensemble: 'With Ausschweifen, a long-cherished dream comes true for us. The performance of Georg Friedrich Haas’ Nach-Ruf … ent-gleitend … in 2013 was a revelation. Our fascination for the world of microtonality was awakened and led us to ever-new explorations of the finest pitch nuances. Since then, we have cherished the dream of a work that comes from the pen of the master, specifically for us.'
