Adele Charvet and Florian Caroubi

The successful French mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet knows the Kleine Zaal well. She has performed there several times. She works seamlessly with her accompanist Florian Caroubi. Together, they won prizes at the Concours International Nadia et Lili Boulanger and the International Vocalists Competition in 's-Hertogenbosch. The program they put together, featuring songs from the Belle Époque, is close to the musicians' hearts; they recorded many of these nostalgic gems.

French songs

A song recital can encompass life itself—that depends on the power of the poetry, the subjects addressed, and the emotions cast into the music. The French fin de siècle, refined and dreamy, lends itself to songs in which farewell and resignation are coupled with intense longing. The lyrical vocal lines of Fauré, the floating harmonies of Debussy, and the intimate warmth of Caplet characterize a recital that does not seek to impress, but offers solace in beauty. And what are Enescu and Albéniz doing here, as odd ducks in this French pond? They show that their hometown of Paris around 1900 was an international melting pot.
