New Model Army

British band New Model Army has been doing what they do best for four decades: writing politically charged poetic songs rooted in folk, punk, rock and metal. The band, named after Olivier Cromwell's revolutionary army of the same name, has managed to build up an enormous cult status worldwide and they will once again play at Melkweg in 2023.

40th birthday

New Model Army was founded in Bradford in 1980 and recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. They have been massively influential in ‘post-punk’, ‘folk-rock’, ‘political-rock’, ‘goth’, ‘metal’ and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but they have steadfastly refused to belong to any club or style that would limit them.
