Would you like to know more about the Lutheran tradition?
Freedom is the ability to start (anew). With that motto, referencing Hannah Arendt, the last Annual Report of the Diaconie opened. Starting anew: that is also what we are doing with this new, joint newspaper, intended for everyone who is interested in the Evangelisch-Lutherse Gemeente Amsterdam.
The characteristic form of the Annual Report has remained, but the content now covers the full breadth of the Lutheran congregation and the frequency will be at least two issues per year. Freedom is central to Luther's conception of faith: faith in Christ liberates humanity.
“You are a free person and no one's servant or subject, and at the same time a helpful servant and everyone's subject,” he wrote in 1520. Free are those who, of their own free will, place themselves in service to one another in love. In this first issue, the theme of Liberation runs like a common thread through the contributions.
