National Tulip Day
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the current corona rules for events plus the uncertainty whether the event can take place on January 15th, the board of Tulip Promotion Netherlands (TPN) has had to decide that the picking garden on the Dam will not take place in 2022, hopefully the picking garden will return in 2023.
The official kick-off for the tulip season is given in Amsterdam every January during National Tulip Day. Dutch tulip growers invite everyone to pick a bunch of tulips for free in a specially laid out picking garden, right in front of the Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam. In 2022 the theme is 'Share happiness'.
Tulips from Amsterdam
Every year, an estimated 1.7 billion Dutch tulips bring a welcome touch of spring to households and businesses all over the globe. National Tulip Day sees Dutch tulip growers create a massive temporary garden on Dam Square, bursting with around 200,000 tulips. More than 10,000 people traditionally come along to pick up their own free tulip from Amsterdam every year – don't miss the chance to pick your own!
