Discover more about your own mind and that of others in an interactive way

In the Museum of the Spirit you will get acquainted with views on this subject over the centuries. Scientists, philosophers and artists are all trying to get a grip on the mind. In addition to the classics such as Aristotle, Freud and Buddha, contemporary thinkers also share their ideas, including medical researcher Machteld Huber and the Nigerian author of self-help books Idowu Kayenikan: “The mind is like a muscle: the more you train it, the stronger it becomes. and the more he can grow.”

The historic highlight of the renovated museum remains the original dolcel, part of the building itself. You will also encounter a wooden leper clapper, a 19th-century constrained chair, an asylum coat embroidered with the Gothic alphabet and Rorschach's well-known stain test. The museum presentation was designed by the design agency Kossmanndejong and is a combination of the extensive historical collection spanning 700 years of healthcare history and contemporary art.

There is also plenty to do for children in the Museum van de Geest|Dolhuys. There are various activities in which you can participate, see for example the children's route for children aged 8-12 years, the Young Adult route for 13-18 year olds and a children's exhibition that you can make yourself for children aged 3-7 years.

Museum of the Spirit has recently been named Museum of the year 2022! It is the most prestigious museum prize in Europe, awarding innovative visions in the museum sector.
