The College Hotel

The College Hotel Amsterdam is one of the hotspots in Oud-Zuid. The hotel is housed in a stylish 19th-century building, which was opened as a school in 1895. Today, the hotel and restaurant continue to contribute to the development of talent; the executive staff consists of students from various hotel schools, who are directed and managed by experienced professionals. Bon bini na Mondi! Mondi is the new and exotische restaurant at The College Hotel. In a tropical environment you can enjoy top-level Caribbean shared dining where Caribbean cuisine and culture are central.

 History of the building

The historic character of The College Hotel has been harmonized with “state if the art” design with respect for authenticity. The building is on the list of most classical buildings with history in Amsterdam. The comparisons between the famous Rijksmuseum – built in the same period – and The College Hotel are clearly visible.

The high ceilings, large fireplaces and spacious stairwells uniquely contribute to the special atmosphere in the lobby, the guest rooms and Food & Drinks bar. All areas of The College Hotel also have a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The hotel offers a number of spacious and stylish meeting and events rooms, which are ideal for attractive business and private meetings, dinners and weddings.

Award-winning Design

The 4-star The College Hotel has 40 stylishly furnished rooms, five multifunctional banqueting rooms, a beautiful Food & Drinks bar, a sunny terrace and a beautiful ballroom. The special concept, design and pleasant service ensure that The College Hotel is visited by guests from home and abroad.

With the opening of Mondi in the summer of 2021, the capital has gained a unique culinary hotspot. The fantastic location, the iconic 4* boutique hotel The College, makes an evening out for dinner extra special. The atmospheric hotel bar is the perfect place for an aperitif before a nice meal. When the weather is nice, the beautiful outdoor bar on the most beautiful terrace in Amsterdam is the place to be. And even after a ‘Caribbean night’ in restaurant Mondi you can lounge on the terrace or in the bar until late in the evening. Even more fun: add a nice overnight stay in one of the 40 stylishly furnished rooms of The College Hotel. Each room of this historic school building is unique and furnished with care. This turns a night out into pure indulgence!

Caribbean Cuisine at mondi restaurant

“Bon bini in Mondi” Master Chef Justin Niessen welcomes you with a warm broad smile to his brand new restaurant located in The College Hotel, one of the most beautiful national monuments in Amsterdam. In a tropical environment you can enjoy top-level fine dining, with Caribbean cuisine and culture at the heart.

The Chef

Justin Niessen, born in 1990 in Willemstad, Curacao, has devoted himself entirely to his only real passion: cooking! The passionate entrepreneur is curious and open-minded. Two characteristics that go hand in hand and explain his eye fir opportunities, creation talent innovation and warm-hearted hospitality. Mondi offers Justin the stage to be himself. “Despite the fact that the basis of my dishes stems from my Caribbean roots, I always try to present innovative creations and combine challenging, surprising flavours that make my guests happy to return”

“Mondi’s tropical atmosphere allows my guests to escape from busy city life for a while. My dishes provide an unforgettable culinary journey through the Caribbean. Think of it as a mini vacation where you are pampered. It is not without reason that I consider hospitality to be of paramount importance. I want to give my guests a unique total experience, partly through the table preparation of a few signature dishes.”

Tropical design

At Mondi you can enjoy the best the Caribbean has to offer. And that goes beyond your plate, the decoration also breathes the warmth of the Caribbean wave. Interior designer Martijn de Goede has translated the atmosphere of the Mondi into the interior in materials as well as in colors and patterns. Natural tones are interspersed with lavish design panels with botanical prints. Art from the islands adorns the walls and large exotic plants and palms complete the special holiday feeling. Through collaborations with Caribbean and Dutch artists, art is given a central place and creativity is paramount.
