Arrival by coach

Travelling by bus to Amsterdam is often a cost-effective solution, with the city served by many European routes. Upon arrival, passengers will typically find simple and quick onward connections to all areas of the city.

Coach operators arriving in Amsterdam

Some of the main coach operators providing journeys to and from Amsterdam are Eurolines, Flixbus, iDBUS and Megabus.

Flixbus operates frequent services between Amsterdam and a variety of European cities. These services terminate at Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Bijlmer ArenA. This transport hub is in the west of the city (only 5 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station by train). From Sloterdijk and Bijlmer ArenA, there are direct onward connections by train, metro, tram and bus. There are also many hotels in the vicinity.

Eurolines is based at station Duivendrecht (Stationsplein 3). This is a major transport hub in the southeast of the city, with direct onward connections by train, metro, tram and bus. The Eurolines ticket office is open daily at this address from 07:00 to 23:00. There is also a booking centre at Rokin 38A (open Mon-Sat, 09:00-17:00).

iDBUS is a French operator that runs international services to and from Amsterdam, terminating at Amsterdam Sloterdijk. See above for onward travel tips.

Megabus is an international coach operator offering low-cost fares to and from London (stopping in France and Belgium on the way). The ferry crossing to Great Britain is included in the ticket price. Coaches stop at Amsterdam Sloterdijk.

As well as the major coach parking areas at Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Amsterdam Amstel, many tour operators make use of coach parking or drop-off points in the city centre (such as Museumplein). As many of the spots in the city centre are limited to short drop-off periods, it is recommended that you request departure and arrival information directly from your operator or driver.

Coach policy

From 1 January 2024, coaches weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are banned from Amsterdam City Centre.

There are boarding and disembarking places on the edge of the city centre (S100) and De Ruijterkade Oost, where coaches can let passengers get on and off without an exemption. More stops will be added in 2024.

Two coach-stopping areas have been established at stations Lelylaan and Holendrecht for easy access from the A10 motorway, saving time by avoiding city congestion. Passengers can swiftly transfer to public transport at these stations for convenient travel to their destinations.

Exemption permits are only issued for coaches carrying people from educational, cultural or art institutions. Such permits generally relate to coaches carrying children under the age of 12, the elderly, people with disabilities or artists and companies only for art/cultural performances.
