Anyone pressed for time who wants to get their fill of flowers should look no further than Keukenhof Gardens. Open for just eight weeks each year, Keukenhof boasts a staggering seven million blooms, planted over 32 hectares. The world-famous Dutch tulips are central to the displays, with over 800 varieties in all manner of colours and shapes exhibited throughout the indoor pavilions and expertly manicured grounds.

Swing by Keukenhof Castle

From 12:00 to 13:00

Located opposite the garden is Keukenhof Castle. Take a tour and learn about its 400-year-old history and previous inhabitants through portraits, furniture and decor that span the styles of each century. Head outside to view the unique sculpture collection or admire the hidden gardens tucked away on the wooded estate.

Tuck into delicious seasonal produce

From 13:00 to 14:00

Nearby, restaurant De Vier Seizoenen (The Four Seasons) in Lisse is all about seasonal produce and is the perfect spot to refuel for lunch or dinner. The menu (and wine list) changes four times a year and features French dishes with Oriental influences alongside more traditional Dutch fare. Sail or cycle through the flower fields

From 14:00 to 15:00

Choose a boat or bike tour through the bulb fields to fully explore the wonderful world of flowers. This is where you’ll see the bold stripes of colour that flame across the landscape each spring. After visiting Keukenhof Gardens, rent your bike at Rent-a-Bike Van Dam, just in front of the garden’s main entrance (€10 a day, including a cycle route). Or, from within the park, you can take an organised tour on an electrically propelled ‘whisper boat’. Admire some spectacular flower art

The Black Tulip Museum is also worth a visit if you want to know more about the history of the Bollenstreek (bulb region). The museum paints an enthralling picture of the remarkable ‘bulb-to-flower-to-bulb’ cycle, with interesting exhibits and unique artworks - including an impressive collection of over 440 tulip vases.
