New restaurant: Sjefietshe
The popularity of ceviche in Amsterdam isn’t news, but what’s ever-evolving is the quality on offer. And one of the best new places to get it is at the former pop-up Sjefietshe, which specialises in “ceviche with an Amsterdam twist”. On a blue-skied August day, we can’t think of a more appealing meal than a cooling bowl of citrus-cured fish with a great glass of (natural) wine. Whether you grab a quick bite at the bar, settle on the sunny terrace (who’s that hungry in the late summer anyway?) or stay for the full 4-course experience, you’ll be glad you did. We loved the tiradito (a sashimi-style dish of Zeeland-raised hamachi, seared flat beans and furakake spices), El Classico (cod, leche di tigre, sweet potato, tomato, onion and corn) and a wonderful waffle with crème fraiche and trout caviar. Highly recommended.
