A bite-sized cultural programme

If you love art and culture but sometimes lack the energy to get your act together, then this is the perfect event for you. The timetable below outlines the main highlights starting at 10am in the morning through to 10pm at night. The only thing for you to do is to immerse yourself into the street art and poetry on offer, or head to the art auction and art gallery showcasing the work of young artists.

10.00-12.00: Outdoor art walking tour

For a leisurely start to your day head to CBK Zuidoost, where you can choose from a delicious cup of coffee, mint tea or a fresh juice to help you wake up. Ready? It's time to stretch your legs and join the 'Pay Attention Please' art walking tour. On this tour you’ll discover a broad variety of unique outdoor artworks and afterwards you can enjoy a delicious piece of cake while you let everything you’ve seen sink in.

Tip: If you missed the morning tour, don’t fret! There’s an afternoon walking tour from 14.00-16.00!

12.00 onwards: Behind the closed doors of the art flats

Jump on your bike, or take the bus or metro to Kraaiennest (Crow’s Nest!). The next destination offers a chance to take a unique peek behind the closed doors of the Kruitberg and Echtenstein flats. Together they house around 2,200 m2 of workshops for young creatives. Are you feeling the creative urge? Then take part in all kinds of drawing and painting workshops.

Tip: Running behind schedule? No problem! The flats will be open through to 18:00 offering plenty of time for a good snoop around.

14.00-15.00: Bijlmer art auction

In the mood to see more? Great, then we’ll head back to our hotspot CBK Zuidoost, where an art auction will take place. This is your opportunity to pick up extraordinary and affordable art works by local talent at rock-bottom prices. Don’t worry, we’re sure you’ll find an empty piece of wall somewhere in your home!

Tip: Art auctions not your thing? Then head straight to Bullewijk for a street art tour (14.00-15.00), a drawing workshop (14.00-16.00) or a delicious bite to eat at Oma Ietje.

15.00-16.00: Oma Ietje’s birthday bash (Festival Central)

With all of this excitement it’s time to refuel. Take metro 50 or 54 to Bullewijk. From there it’s just a few minutes to Oma Ietje’s café where you can sit back and relax and treat yourself to a huge club sandwich, an Italian salad or a bowl of homemade soup.

Tip: Oma Ietje is open all day (12.00-22.00) making it a perfect base. If you’d like to relax a little longer, then skip the art tour and hang out at Oma Ietjes or head to GLLRY ZOH for art and cocktails.

16.00-17.00: Zuidoost street art tour

You don’t have to venture too far for the next programme highlight as the Zuidoost street art tour begins at Oma Ietje. This art route takes in the most Instagrammable street art by international artists. Your guide will help you to discover a number of hidden spots all within neighbourhood H. Expect a roller coaster ride of impressive murals on viaducts, stairways, parking garages, underpasses and high-rise apartments.

17.00-19.00: Art and cocktails

You could probably use a refreshing cocktail after all that walking. Just a stone's throw from Oma Ietje you’ll see a row of colourful facades. They’re home to artists from the Heesterveld Creative Community cultural hub and the GLLRY ZOH exhibition space. Wander through the gallery with a reviving cocktail in hand and treat both your eyes and your taste buds.

Tip: GLLRY ZOH is open from 14.00-22.00 making it a perfect hangout. Worked up an appetite yet? Don’t forget that Oma Ietje has tasty snacks on the menu.

19.00-22.00: Write and recite your own poetry

Still powering through? Perfect! There’s still time to take part in an exclusive poetry workshop in Bijlmer Oost. Under the watchful eye of award-winning Iranian poet Sholeh Rezazadeh, you can put pen to paper and enjoy a cup of Iranian tea while reciting your poem afterwards.

Tip: There is also a morning workshop from 11.00-14.00.
