About memories, emotional bonds, and children's play
What the Body Remembers explores how family histories continue to have an impact across generations, and how they continue to influence our desire for connection and vulnerability.
Together with a group of young performers, Wijnmaalen brings a series of carefully composed, visual scenes to life, accompanied by a choir. The creative process is particularly noteworthy about this production.
For nine months, Wijnmaalen worked every Sunday with seven alumni of the Groningen Art Academy and her seven-year-old daughter. Whereas she previously started from her own memories, now for the first time the material of the performers themselves forms the starting point.
