The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival: Marion Laville - Adelphos

One myth. 4 siblings. Twenty years later: where do we stand? When she was 13, her brother gave her a book. Twenty years later, it is still on her bedside table. The story of Antigone has traveled everywhere with her: in every coat pocket, backpack, and suitcase.

Antigone

It is the story of a woman who climbs a hill in the middle of the night and makes a radical choice: she stands up to the king, stands up for her brother, and remains true to what she believes is right.

But Antigone is also the story of 4 siblings who inherit the burden of a family curse. Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles and Polyneikes are adelphoi: born of the same mother and forever connected to each other by blood, history and fate.

This performance explores their struggle not to lose each other, amidst conflict, loyalty and loss. Twenty years after I first discovered the story, I look into my brother's eyes and ask myself: who are we today? What do we stand for? And where do we stand?

About Marion Laville

Marion Laville is a French-born performer and teacher, based in Amsterdam. In her work, she brings together music, theatre and storytelling.

For more than 10 years, Marion has been teaching music in secondary schools and theatre classes to children. Her artistic training includes theatre at university, harp at the Conservatoire de Chalon-sur-Saône and storytelling at the Mezrab Storytelling School in Amsterdam.

Her love for teaching and her passion for performing have shaped her artistic focus: presence, play and attentive listening. In her work, she weaves together storytelling, theatre and music. From that combination, she uses presence, imagination, personal stories and ancient mythology to stimulate, challenge and touch her audience and, above all, to build bridges between people.
