A film about a piece of history
Palestine 36 is set during the Arab revolt of 1936 in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine. Director Annemarie Jacir weaves several storylines together. You follow a female journalist who writes under a male name, a villager who gets involved in the resistance, and British officials struggling with their role in a colonial system.
Multiple perspectives on resistance and colonialism
By placing the stories of diverse characters side by side, Jacir shows how people make choices in a politically charged situation. The film raises questions about resilience, humanity, and the consequences of colonialism, without centering on a single perspective.
