A sizzling dance thriller full of lust, jealousy and revenge

The well-known 19th-century Spanish cigarette factory is transformed into a greasy 50s garage-diner in the American Midwest. Here, the dreams and passions of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome and mysterious stranger. Driven by heat and desire, the residents are drawn into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.

Matthew Bourne creates a dance thriller like no other, combined with one of the most passionate and dramatic musical scores ever written, featuring music by Terry Davies and Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (based on Bizet’s Carmen). With Bourne’s signature mix of powerful choreography and vivid storytelling, The Car Man drags you along until the very last second.

Please note: The Car Man contains scenes of a sexual nature, brief moments of nudity, strobe lighting effects and gunshots.

About Matthew Bourne

Following Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty, Edward Scissorhands and Swan Lake, the top British choreographer returns to Koninklijk Theater Carré thanks to the Carré Fonds. As an advocate for diversity and inclusion in dance and art, his work is characterized by strong character development and a cinematic approach to storytelling, with a focus on emotional depth.

Bourne is known for adding new dimensions to universally known stories. The Midnight Bell places Patrick Hamilton’s 1929 novel in a pub, while his Romeo and Juliet centers on themes such as mental health. Bourne is therefore arguably the most groundbreaking choreographer of the moment.
