An occult conspiracy on live television

Buenos Aires, early eighties. A group of journalists is working feverishly on evidence for an occult conspiracy in the highest circles of government. All of this takes place during the very last live recordings of the TV show 60 Minutes before Midnight. When self-proclaimed 'wizard' Adrian Marcato joins the broadcast, he seems to know more than he lets on.

Cosmic horror in black and white

Director Cristian Ponce was inspired by paranoid political thrillers from the seventies and added a layer of cosmic horror to them. In grainy black and white, History of the Occult slowly builds an intensely claustrophobic atmosphere. The combination of a live TV setting and a slumbering conspiracy makes the film a unique viewing experience.

Award-winning debut by Cristian Ponce

History of the Occult is Ponce's feature film debut and won the Black Tulip for Best Film at the Imagine Film Festival 2021. The film is now showing at LAB111 as part of the theme program Ghost in the Feed. Are you interested? Use the link for tickets.
