A café concert from the 19th century
In the 19th century, classical music was not a dignified affair. Programs were varied, venues ranged from palaces to pubs, and the audience enjoyed it with a drink in hand. Une Soirée à Caveau takes you to Café Caveau, a Parisian venue where café concerts took place from 1860.
Music, poetry and French drinks
The program consists of operetta arias, chansons, and songs, interspersed with recitations of poems. In between, the artists serve drinks such as absinthe, communard , and coco , accompanied by corn galettes , sugared almonds, and madeleines. In this way, you literally taste the atmosphere of 19th-century Paris.
Four musicians, one stage
The performance is in the hands of mezzo-soprano Lisa Defeyter, alto Héloïse Godefroi, baritone Bas Cornelissen, and pianist Jeroen Sarphati. The four musicians met during their studies and share the desire to make concerts more accessible and personal.
