The politics of looking

Who is looking, and from what position? That is the central question in the work of artist Maksaens Denis. In his practice, he explores how photography and video can disrupt the gaze rather than confirm it. Denis seeks a visual language that makes room for stories of minorities, beyond domination and beyond survival.

Conversation with curator Charl Landvreugd

During the artist talk, Denis enters into a dialogue with curator and researcher Charl Landvreugd. Landvreugd specializes in new media and decolonial art practices. Together, they explore how visual language can foster solidarity and what that demands of both makers and viewers. The conversation invites you to question your own perspective.
