In the Museum van de Geest you will become acquainted with ideas about this subject throughout the centuries. Scientists, philosophers and artists are all trying to get a grip on the mind. In addition to classics such as Aristoteles, Freud and Boeddha, contemporary thinkers also share their ideas, including physician-researcher Machteld Huber and the Nigerian self-help book author Idowu Kayenikan: “The mind is like a muscle: the more you train it, the stronger it becomes and the more it can grow.”

The historical highlight of the renovated museum remains the original dolcel, part of the building itself. In addition, you will encounter, among other things, a wooden leper clapper, a 19th-century restraint chair, an asylum jacket embroidered with the Gothic alphabet and the well-known Rorschach inkblot test. The museum presentation was designed by the design agency Kossmanndejong and is a combination of the extensive historical collection covering 700 years of care history and contemporary art.
