Museum 't Kromhout (‘t Kromhout Shipyard)

Visit

It shows a collection of steam engines, Kromhout and other engines. The museum is only open on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and for groups of 15 people or more, also (by appointment) on other days. In addition, the museum can be visited free of charge during the summer months on every third Sunday of the month from 12:00 to 16:00.

€ 7.00 pp for adults, children up to 14 years free! Groups from 10 people € 6.00 pp The museum is easily accessible for disabled people.

Location

The museum is located in an old factory hall, which has been completely renovated. Three important periods are covered: timber construction, the construction of iron ships using rivets and iron construction according to 20th-century techniques, using electric welding. An important part of the exhibition is the collection of historic Dutch ship engines.

Back in time

The showpiece is the legendary Kromhout 12 hp petrol engine. A smithy has also been set up, as it was a hundred years ago. On request, the blacksmith's fire is stoked here and demonstrations of forging and riveting take place, according to the old techniques. The museum is located on the grounds of shipyard `t Kromhout, one of the oldest shipyards in Amsterdam. Shipbuilding and repair have been taking place here since the 17th century. Around 1890 the yard was covered with two characteristic flowing iron roofs, which have been preserved as an industrial monument. An old steam winch can also be seen.

Target

The association's objective is to preserve the cultural and industrial heritage. The museum is run entirely by volunteers.
