From textile waste to art

Step inside the Vrouw en Vaart textile studio in Nieuw-West, a meeting place for women where development, creativity, and connection take centre stage. Vrouw en Vaart organises activities centred on learning, participation, and well-being. In the studio, women come together to create, learn, and share stories. There are sewing courses, communal creative sessions, and a textile repair café, where clothing is repaired, altered, and reused.

During this open afternoon, Roua Atelier is hosting a workshop where you can get to work with leftover textiles yourself. Make something small or give a garment a new life. Feel free to bring old clothes to transform into something else. This way, you can meet the volunteers, seamstresses, and makers from Nieuw-West who keep this place going.

Also on display is the hand-woven tapestry by Mina Ouaouirst, inspired by Amazigh weaving traditions, an ancient North African form of weaving. In this work, loss, grief, and connection come together in textiles.
