A light installation that you play together with others
White Space is an installation by artist Matthias Oostrik in which a rotating monolith of blue and white light takes center stage. The sculpture responds to the position and posture of everyone in the space. In this way, it becomes an instrument that you do not play alone, but together with strangers. Only by coordinating and synchronizing poses do you reach the climax: the empty space between people fills with light and sound.
Light, sound and human connection
Oostrik developed the soundscape of White Space together with composer Marcel Wierckx. The music is generative and draws from electronic dance music. As such, the work positions itself at the intersection of light art, club culture, and participatory performance. The installation is a production of the Harmonic Dissonance Collective, which Oostrik co-founded with Suzanne Dikker and is known for work exploring human connectedness.
