Experience island life at Fort Pampus

During the Month of History 2026, Fort Pampus reflects on the impact of isolated island life on body and mind. Living on an island for weeks, cut off from the outside world, requires adaptability. Here, you learn how soldiers and fort keeper families coped with limited space and a daily existence without readily available water, food, or energy. The story of Pampus goes beyond military technology; it reveals a complete world.

Discover stories and meanings

Explore the fort via daily guided tours that take you into life and work on Pampus. In addition to the tours, there are experiential routes, a virtual balloon flight, and a treasure map full of memories to follow. Discover photographic diptychs scattered across the island that connect the past with the present. Residents from the Gooi region participated in a special photo project, and you can see their stories and photos on Pampus.
