Classical music on marimba and vibraphone
The Shiki Percussion Duo takes you back to the beginning of the 20th century. Ayami Okamura and Daniel deSimone play works by Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky — but not on the instruments for which these pieces were originally written. They arrange music for piano, voice, koto and orchestra for marimba and vibraphone. This makes familiar classical music sound in a surprising way.
Music you hear differently
Because of the arrangement for mallet instruments, the music gets a different timbre. The melodies and harmonies remain recognizable, but the tone is softer and more resonant than with a piano or orchestra. This gives an intimate and dreamy character to the program. If you love classical music and are curious about how it sounds in a new guise, then this concert is for you.
Splendor Amsterdam as a stage
The concert takes place at Splendor Amsterdam, a music house on the Amstel where musicians manage their own stage. The atmosphere is informal and the hall offers space for a direct connection between musicians and the audience. Are you interested in this concert? Use the link on this page to reserve tickets.
