The softness of metal

At the heart is a mix of Terry Riley's In C and the Indian Raga Bhairav. Two musical worlds (West and East) that, in their own way, invite a different manner of listening: attentively, patiently, and almost ritually.

The music moves in waves. Motifs return, sounds shift slowly, rhythms change barely or very gradually. There is little musical information, but precisely because of this, space is created to notice the smallest differences: a different resonance, a shift in color, a new relationship between silence and sound.

Minimal music

It is minimal music in the most literal sense: a minimum of rapid changes, fast rhythms, and new musical ideas. At the same time, there remains a great deal of freedom in interpretation. Those small liberties can suddenly grab your attention — precisely because you have been given time to truly listen.

Beforehand, Peter Prommel gives a brief introduction to mindful listening: how attention works, why we are so easily distracted, and how we can practice simply noticing what is being said — without immediately judging whether something is “happening”.
