Rites & Revelations

Trumpeter Laura Jurd is making an international name for herself as a jazz musician with a unique flair for both folk music and classical composition. This fall, her latest album, Rites & Revelations , will be released, featuring her playing alongside Irish violinist Ultan O'Brien and British accordionist Martin Green, known as a member of the folk trio Lau. Live, they transport the listener to a cathartic ritual, fueled by the dynamic rhythm section of Ruth Goller on bass and Corrie Dick on drums. Her exceptional trumpet playing earned Laura Jurd recognition as a promising British jazz talent from a young age. As a bandleader, she has appeared at the Bimhuis with her groups Dinosaur and The Big Friendly Band. In recent years, she has proven herself as a composer who pushes the boundaries with grand orchestrations and ingenious passages, with The Beatles and Stravinsky as shining examples. She has written music for bands including the London Sinfonietta, the Festival of New Trumpet Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the Ligeti Quartet.
