Reflection, dialogue and connection
This concert centers on music that has survived generations, sometimes despite prohibitions and oppression. The concert aims to provide space for reflection, dialogue, and connection, and serves as a symbolic moment to pause and reflect on the past together while building a shared future. The Kulturu: Keti Koti Commemoration Concert brings together artists from various parts of the Caribbean and the diaspora, who use their music to showcase the power of culture, resilience, and community. This year, the concert marks 153 years since the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the former Netherlands Antilles. As such, the event constitutes an important cultural and historical gathering leading up to the annual Keti Koti commemoration on July 1.
