Prewien Pandohi-Mishre
Singer and composer Prewien Pandohi-Mishre is one of the leading representatives of North Indian classical and devotional music in the Netherlands. His roots lie in both India and Suriname, and these rich traditions resonate in his warm, expressive voice. Prewien combines the centuries-old Rāga tradition with modern sounds, making his music both authentic and surprisingly contemporary. He completed his Master's in Indian singing at CODARTS in 2019 and is actively committed to preserving the classical Indian music tradition. On television, he has appeared in VPRO's Vrije Geluiden and in a portrait for NTR's Iedereen Verlicht, among others. Prewien has collaborated with international Indian artists. Recently, he released the song Mama Sranan as part of the 50th anniversary of Suriname's independence. This concert also marks the conclusion of the 50th anniversary of Suriname's independence.
Anantha
Anantha tells the story of eternal change. Singer Prewien Pandohi-Mishre and his ensemble showcase this theme in music full of growth, stillness, emotion, and renewal. Traditional Indian melodies are combined with modern sounds, creating a rich and layered musical landscape. Central to the performance are Indian classical music and the Surinamese-Hindustani tradition, the musical heritage of Prewien, who was born in Suriname. His music flows from style to style, featuring not only traditional instruments but also acoustic guitar, flute, double bass, and influences from jazz and blues. Tonight, Prewien demonstrates how these traditions, once from far overseas, have come together in the Netherlands and continue to evolve. The result is a warm, inclusive, and contemporary musical experience that reveals the richness of Indian music and its significance for the world today.
