Dowland 400 Thomas Dunford & Jupiter
Thomas Dunford calls the English composer John Dowland the 'John Lennon of the 16th century'. And rightly so, for with his songs and the instrumental collection Lachrimae, or Seven Tears, he is still regarded as one of the most important English composers. Works that serve as pop songs, which contemporary artists also know how to handle – think of Sting's successful Dowland album Songs from the Labyrinth. Four hundred years after Dowland's death, the lutenist and leader of ensemble Jupiter presents the best of John Dowland. Come listen at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.
