Tim Mead & Korneel Bernolet

Tim Mead belongs to the select group of top countertenors. Just last season, he could be seen and heard in Bach's St Matthew Passion at the Concertgebouw. He is highly versatile, as is evident from today's program: he masters the somewhat 'older' Baroque of Monteverdi just as well as songs by Purcell, yet he does not shy away from modern works. Korneel Bernolet is a musical jack-of-all-trades: harpsichordist, organist, and conductor. He has conducted many orchestras and is involved in prestigious opera productions. He is associated with well-known 'houses' such as the Opera of Versailles, La Scala, and the Vienna State Opera. Together with the Baroque orchestra Il Gardellino, he has conducted compelling concerts in the Baroque Vocal series (including Dame Sarah Connolly and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater ).

From Monteverdi to Purcell

Today's program has been specially curated for the Baroque Vocal series by Tim Mead and Korneel Bernolet. The program is divided into two sub-programs: before the intermission, you can enjoy an 'Italian' program, featuring well-known arias such as 'Oblivion Soave' and 'Lamento d'Arianna' by Monteverdi. After the intermission, it is an 'English' program, with plenty of Purcell (including O Solutude and An Evening Hymn ).

This concert forms a mini-series with, among others, the concert of June 6, 2027 (Stabat Mater & Nisi Dominus).
