Bach meets tango: Carel Kraayenhof & Friends
Fugues in Piazzolla
It is well known that contemporary classical composers have written works based on tango. But few know that the reverse has also happened—tango composers drawing inspiration from classical music. For instance, you can recognize Bach's fugues in Piazzolla's works and quotes from Beethoven in the music of Osvaldo Pugliese. Music is timeless and boundless. Bring them together and the possibilities are endless, the result as surprising as it is special, as Kraayenhof & friends prove tonight.
Connection between classical and tango
During Bach meets Tango, Carel Kraayenhof & friends demonstrate the sound of the connection between classical and tango. They perform works by Piazzolla, Bach, and Carel Kraayenhof himself, among others. Pianist Juan-Pablo Dobal—who grew up in Argentina with tango and classical music—wrote a new composition especially for this program. And, of course, the tango classic Adiós nonino, so beloved in the Netherlands, is included.
