In 2007, Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam opened its doors to guests in the former new headquarters of NV Het Scheepvaarthuis.
The striking building, a national monument since 1974, is a remarkable example of the Expressionist Amsterdam School architectural style. Down to the smallest detail, executed in the most expensive materials, renowned architects, sculptors, and stained-glass artists gave expression to the history of our maritime trade through related symbolism. The Scheepvaarthuis is thus a 'Gesamtkunstwerk', in which the history of Amsterdam's rich maritime past is depicted as an architecture parlante (visual narrative). The exterior evokes associations with a moored ship at the corner of Prins Hendrikkade and Binnenkant.
Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam not only offers hotel guests the opportunity to admire the interior, but art and culture enthusiasts are also given this opportunity during our guided tour packages. The organization and execution of the tours are handled by Museum Het Schip.
The guided tour is organized every Sunday as a package:
11:30 - 12:00 - Walk-in with a cup of tea/coffee
12:00 - 13:30 - Guided tour
1:30 PM - Sandwich lunch*
Please note : drinks with lunch are not included in the package.
