Face to face with a wild bird
Stand face to face with a lapwing, great tit, or robin and watch how experienced birders carefully ring wild birds for scientific research. A unique experience that you normally wouldn't easily get to experience from such close proximity.
During the bird ringing days, the birders explain everything about migration routes, habitats, and the research that helps protect bird populations. The highlight of the visit is the release, when the birds go their own way again.
It is no coincidence that Pampus is an important resting place for migratory birds. The island is increasingly developing into a green oasis in the IJmeer and is partly for this reason nominated for the title of Greenest Museum of the Netherlands 2026 .
A complete day out right away
After the demonstration, there is plenty of time to explore the rest of the island. Stroll through the historic fort, enjoy the views over the IJmeer, walk the interactive routes, take a virtual balloon flight over the Amsterdam Defence Line, and settle down on the terrace or in the Pampus Pavilion for coffee, lunch, or a drink. This way, you turn a special moment in nature into a complete day out.
