Experience the night during 8 exclusive evenings in December and January. Start the evening with a live show at the Planetarium and discover how immense the universe really is. After that stroll through ARTIS Zoo in the dark. Spot animals with night vision goggles and see which animals are active at night. Evening openings: 13, 20, 21, 27, 28 December 2025 and 2, 3, 4 January 2026.

Start your evening at the Planetarium

You start the evening with a live show in Dutch at the Planetarium. Experience total darkness, discover the starry sky and see the impact of light pollution. You will receive tips on the best places around Amsterdam to gaze at the stars in winter and how to recognise constellations and planets yourself. Then you will travel to places in the universe that cannot be seen with the naked eye, such as the Milky Way, nebulae and galaxies. Walk through ARTIS Zoo in the dark

After the show, you can stroll through ARTIS Zoo in the dark. On clear evenings, a Planeteer will explain everything about the starry sky using a telescope and green lasers. You may even spot animals with night vision goggles. In the Small Mammal House you will discover which animals are active at night. Dutch-speaking storytellers will share the importance of the night, and a special Dutch-language audio tour lets you relax while walking through the park.
