Afrogrooves: Music without sheet music

Be surprised by the power of rhythm during the percussion workshop by Stichting Afrogrooves. Under the guidance of Mark Oomen and Remco Menting, you will play instruments such as congas, djembés, and shakers. You will make music together. You will do this without sheet music: the workshop leader directs the group using gestures. This gives everyone the chance to play along.

Percussion workshop 'Sign This'

This workshop uses a unique musical sign language: Rhythm and Percussion with Signs. This language was created by the Argentinian composer and percussionist Santiago Vazquez. The workshop leader directs the group using gestures, creating a shared musical improvisation on the spot. You will experience how you can create a swinging whole together, without sheet music or fixed rules.

The Afrogrooves Foundation has been giving interactive music workshops for years. Meeting, connection, and the joy of making music together are always central to these workshops. The foundation pays homage to West African rhythms. Afrogrooves uses these rhythms as a means for talent development and connection between people.
