HH. Petrus and Paulus Church (the Parrot Church)
Sandwiched between dozens of shops in the middle of Amsterdam’s busy Kalverstraat, you’ll find the neo-gothic facade of the HH. Petrus and Paulus Church, better known as the “Parrot” (Papegaai). Built around 1700, it was a Catholic church, and served as a secret place of worship during the Reformation.

At the door of the HH. Petrus and Paulus Church a large sign invites passers-by to devote 15 minutes to God ("Eenkwartiervoor God"). This Roman Catholic church is thought to have been built in the garden of a bird dealer, hence the parrot on the gable.
