Museum Van Loon | Historisch huis in Amsterdam

Museum Van Loon, the former house of the regent Van Loon family, is situated in the heart of the Amsterdam Canals. Willem van Loon was in 1602 co-founder of the Dutch East Indian Company. The house was designed in 1672 by architect Adriaen Dortsman. The first inhabitant of the house was Ferdinand Bol, a student of the famous painter Rembrandt. In the rooms one finds beautiful portraits, impressive pieces of furniture and silver and porcelain from different centuries. PLEASE NOTE: You can only pay with Card in the museum.

How to visit Museum van Loon with your City Card

It is not necessary to reserve a time slot to visit this location with your City Card. Make sure that your City Card is valid at the time of your visit.

The House

The house was designed in 1672 by the architect Adriaen Dortsman . The first resident was the painter Ferdinand Bol, a pupil of Rembrandt. In the rooms, the visitor will find portraits, beautiful furniture, fine silverware and porcelain from different centuries. There is a beautiful garden behind the house. The garden is laid out in the style of the 17th century and is closed off by the beautiful gable wall of the coach house .

Coach house

The original Van Loon carriages can be seen in a varying arrangement in the coach house. In addition, the harnesses and liveries have also been preserved.

World Heritage

Nowhere else can the Amsterdam canals be experienced as optimally as in Museum Van Loon . Due to their unique character, Unesco added them to the World Heritage List . Museum Van Loon provides a special look behind the façade of an impressive building in the heart of the Amsterdam canal belt. Lectures or other activities take place regularly.
